Sunny Citrine Jewelry

Sunny Citrine Jewelry

The sun is beating down here in Florida, so that means it's hot, hot, and hotter.

It occurred to me the other day that citrine resembles the sun. Maybe it was heat stroke, but don't you think?

At little info on citrine (other than it's my birthstone) from gemstone.org:

Citrine is one of the most affordable gemstones, thanks to the durability and availability of this golden quartz. Named from the French name for lemon,"citron," many citrines have a juicy lemon color.

Citrine includes yellow to gold to orange brown shades of transparent quartz. Sunny and affordable, citrine can brighten almost any jewelry style, blending especially well with the yellow gleam of polished gold.

In ancient times, citrine was carried as a protection against snake venom and evil thoughts.

And now for some beautiful citrine jewelry from Spark Creations:

Singer, Jewel is Golden

Singer, Jewel is Golden

According to Speak Gold, singer / songwriter Jewel is in love….with the fashionable pearl and gold jewelry collection by designer Roberto Coin.

Jewel even had the designer make her an 18kt gold guitar strap.

I don't know…think that's over the top? Oh, why not, I guess.

The collection is called Perl' Amore, and well, let's just say Jewel is obviously not easy because this collection is gorgeous.

Pearl junkies like myself will especially enjoy this collection full of pearls (of course), gold (yes, I know, duh), and also lots of links (yes, more circles, told ya).

Enjoy!

Mont Blanc for Men

24 May

Even if your guy isn't into jewelry, per say, many men at one time or another will find the need for accessories like a tie clip, tie pin, or even cuff links sometimes. So don't give up when it comes to jewelry for the men in your life.

Here are a few tie clip ideas from Mont Blanc, who carries a pretty good assortment of both men and women's jewelry. I like how they have a large selection of tie clips or tie bars, but they vary from super fancy using precious metals to more casual such as rubber and steel.

Russian Joins Jewelry Lovers

Russian Joins Jewelry Lovers

Seems the United States isn't enough for the Italian jewelry industry. They now are beginning to target Russian customers, especially those who are starting to make money from oil. They are interested in spending money, and that includes statues symbols like gold and diamond jewelry.

From Reuters: Italian jewelers say they are looking to expand into oil-rich Russia as the strong euro against the dollar and growing competition from countries with lower labor costs hit sales in their key U.S market.

The United States accounted for about 20 percent of Italian gold jewelry exports in 2005, down from about one third of exports a few years ago and jewelers said Russia is becoming an attractive market as incomes and consumer demand grow there.

"Russia is a big opportunity for luxury goods. It is already one of the most important markets," Paolo Novembri, chairman of the advisory board at research and consultancy firm TJF, said on the sidelines of a trend-setting gold fair in Vicenza.

Russia's economy has grown rapidly over the past years, fueled by soaring international oil prices and household consumption growth — at above 11 percent per year — nearly doubled the pace of economic growth in Russia in 2004 and 2005.

Jewelry consumption in Russia nearly tripled over the past six years to 64.5 tonnes in 2005 from 23.3 tonnes in 1999, according to data from international jewelry consultancy GFMS.

Circle Jewelry

Circle Jewelry

It's all about the circle…that's what we say when we joke about how my young nephew seems to be fascinated by anything shaped like a circle – balls, plastic lids…

When you think about it, the circle is every where; just look around and you'd be amazed at how many things in our lives are this shape.

Of course, I should have known that my brilliant nephew was just ahead of his time because right now, jewelry is "all about the circle."

Here are some selections from the Tiffany Swing collection.

Around the Jewelry Blogosphere

Around the Jewelry Blogosphere

Here are a few picks from the fashion and jewelry blogosphere. As usual, feel free to post your own or other bloggers' URLs in the comments.

Manolo for Brides picks out a beautiful winter wedding dress, complete with lots of jewels sparkling all over it.

Red diamonds…yum!…are the topic of conversation over at the Bling Blog. Pictured is a three stone red diamond ring, which she explains is super rare.

Kristopher Dukes was never a big fan of Sex and the City, but she liked the jewelry. It took me awhile to warm up to this show, but have to admit that I eventually bought into it, though I don't think I'd call these gals middle age (yikes!)

Jewelry and Beading shows off a pretty beaded flower made from glass seed beads.

Fashion Tribes picks out a really cool, ornate ribbon cuff bracelet.

designersREPORT.com reports on the future of technology and fashion – techno-fashion.

Also on the technology and fashion vibe, Coutorture via FashionTribes talks about laptop bags that have been spiced up.

Almostgirl has a video of Gen Art winner, Zoe Hong.

There's a discussion about the new Oh! Be Jewelled show going on over at the About.com Jewelry Making site.

Badgley and Mischka Jeweled Clothing

Badgley and Mischka Jeweled Clothing

I loved the new show about jewelry and fashion that premiered this past weekend on the Oxygen Network. It's called Oh! Be Jewelled, and along with a little taste of jewelry making (I say little because the show is more about design inspiration rather than actual technique) they talked with big time designers about how they approached the design process.

My favorite part of the show was the interview with Mark Badgley and James Mischka. Now, of course, these guys are known more for their clothing than jewelry or accessories, but they talked about how jewelry influenced their designs, how they incorporated jeweled embellishments and ornate details much like those used in vintage jewelry.

As examples of what Badgley and Mischka are referring to, take a look at the trim and other details on these gowns modeled by the Olsen Twins:

Now, granted, these girls could do with a hamburger or two, but you have to admit the clothing is stunning.

Pearls from Spain

Pearls from Spain

I've been surfing around ogling pearls again. I just can't help myself!

This time I discovered the Andrea Candela web site. Along with pearls and gemstones, they combine 18kt gold with sterling silver. From their web site:

It was in this same "Old World" tradition of quality and design that the Andrea Candela designer brand was created in 2004. Inspired by the beauty and heritage of Spain, Andrea Candela designed a magnificent collection of jewelry incorporating sterling silver, 18kt gold, exotic gemstones and fine quality diamonds. Immediately recognizable by the unique Armadillo finish and rope edge design trademarks, Andrea Candela has become one of the most successful new introductions in the jewelry industry. First introduced at Vicenza Oro in January 2005, Andrea Candela is sold exclusively in fine jewelry stores and upscale department stores world wide.

Here are some pieces from their Marbella Collection.

Her First Diamonds

Her First Diamonds

I remember playing dress up as a young girl, and that often included wearing mom's jewelry. My mom, sad to say, didn't have any diamond jewelry in her jewelry box for me to play with, but these days, children are starting to have their own fine jewelry collection including silver, gold, and yes, diamonds too. I have seen a number of companies offering fine jewelry for children lately.

Loveivy specializes in jewelry for children. From their website: Loveivy is a dedicated children's jewelry online retailer. Founded in 2003, we are based in Long Island, New York. Our goal is to provide children and teenagers high-quality fine jewelry and gifts at competitive prices and with the best service. We believe that jewelry is a special part of a child's memory, a loved and treasured gift. Our jewelry gifts will bring years of sweet memories to your young loved ones.
