Chocolate Diamonds

Probably at the top of the average woman's list of "good things" are chocolate and diamonds, but what about when these two are combined. Ever hear of chocolate diamonds? Like many colored diamonds these days, brown diamonds aka chocolate diamonds are starting to gain in popularity. They look especially well when set in white gold or platinum I think.

I just started hearing about these so took a cruise around the net to find some examples. First, pictured left are some platinum and diamond chocolate rings from Paul Spurgeon available at George Tarratt.

And, next is a bracelet from Ross-Simons made of chocolate diamonds and 14kt white gold.

Here's a honker from ShopNBC, yellow gold, smokey quartz, with chocolate diamonds set around it.

Honestly, I'm not sure what I think about these colored diamonds. Normally, I'm a big fan of colored gemstones, but I've always been taught that dark diamonds mean poor quality, so I'm not sure if I'm ready to go there yet.

Well you are not the only one who thinks diamonds have associations with chocolates. A jeweler did not found anythink better to sell his jewels in a chocolate box. Taste crusty!

    A jewellery weblog – lovely.

We sell chocolate diamonds in designs by award winning UK designer Paul Spurgeon and also BLACK diamonds. Yes – coloured diamonds, you can also get blue, pink, green, do look lovely in the right designs.

And guys, if you’re not convinced, why not do as my husband did and give her a beautiful solitaire diamond in a box of chocolates. Yes, it’s been done before but the effect is always great. The only problem is that every time you give chocolates …..

If you’re not convinced why not do as my hubby did: gave me a beautiful solitaire diamond nestlying in a box of chocolates. The only thing is, I can’t get a box of chocolates now without hoping …..!

I feel like I have to respond to the comments about fancy color diamonds being of poor quality. I have a 1.25 chocolate diamond set in platinum with white diamonds surrounding it and the chocolate is VVS quality!!

I love diamonds, too. And you’re right the yellow or brown ones are of poor quality. But I guess people wear that for the overall effect, which sometimes go with what they’re wearing. For me, as long as they’re real diamonds, they’re precious!

I’m with you on this one-I’m torn on this issue. I’ve done some reading, and there is quite a bit of cynism when it comes to terms such as “chocolate” diamonds, or “champagne” diamonds (not to be confused with “canary yellow” diamonds). There are those who believe these phrases are merely marketing gimmicks to sell poor quality diamonds to those willing to buy them, and then those who believe that beauty is to be found even in the least perfect of stones. The samples you show are beautiful in their presentation-I’d like to see them in person and see if they live up to their photographic beauty in reality. Thanks for the post.

I understand that brown diamonds have traditionally been less desirable than the rest of the market, but I think the shift in popularity of ‘chocolate diamonds’ is half-marketing by the industry, and also half arrangements/settings – meaning that if you place a fairly attractive brown diamond in a nice arrangement it can certainly have unique appeal – as a fashion accessory for alt-colored outfits for instance. At our site MJB, the demographics are actually most females buying these, which hints that they know what they want, it’s not guys taking a guess or buying into the ‘chocolate’ part of the marketing.
